Galty Castle Wood Sunday November 28th Event Info

Hard to believe it but our first event of 2021 will take place on Sunday November 28th at Galty Castle Wood, Limerick. Galty Castle is located on the southern slopes of the Galty Mountains. The area was once the site of Galty Castle and was built in 1740. The Castle was demolished around 1940 and the stone was then used to build the local church in Glanworth. All that remains as evidence of the estate are some red sandstone stables, an outline of the tennis courts and stone alcove referred to locally as ‘Kingston’s Chair’.  The terrain is mixed forestry with a good road/track network. Take the R639 through the village of Kilbeheny. Take the 2nd left turn, 1km after Kilbeheny (Signs for Kings Yard & Coillte ) and then a right turn. Follow O-signs. * From Dublin/Waterford, take the M8 southbound and exit at Junction 11, signposted Kilbeheny/Skeheenarinky. Follow the R639 south, passing Kilcoran Lodge & Glengarra Wood, on your right. Continue past 1st sign to Kings Yard at Skeheenarinky until you come to 2nd sign for Kings Yard/Coillte as above.
