The tenth event in the CorkO Summer League will take place in Curragh
Wood, Midleton next Tuesday July 15th. Remember this is the final event
to count in the individual league results. So if you're attempting to
complete the league, improve on some previous results and elevate
yourself up the leader board then don't miss this final opportunity to
make a difference. Due to the early and highly competitive running of many of our
summer league regulars it seems with just one competitive event to go
all the league champion titles have already been decided. Following the
inclusion of Cillin Corbett's organiser points for controlling the event
in Tracton his points total reduces to the lowest possible total of
just 6 points. This will definitely mean he will be crowned Long Course
Men's Champion at our prize giving in Farran in two weeks time.
Following his second summer league event win on Tuesday evening John
Chandler assumes a good handle on the runners-up spot in the men's
league with 13 points. His nearest contender is Conrad Daly who
currently has a total of 20 points. However, Conrad is planning the
event in Curragh Wood so this will see him acquire his organisers points
next week which will no doubt reduce his points total but it may not be
enough to over take John. Presently, just one point behind Conrad is
Jonathan Lucey. Looking down the league table it would appear that Brian
Corbett has the potential for a top five finish if he is back from his
holidays in time for the Curragh event and performs well on this
physical terrain.
In the Long course ladies league Sharon Lucey has
staked her claim to the Ladies Champion title a number of weeks back but
she continues to make strides to improve her winning margin and her
current points total of 10 sees her seven points clear of the joint
second place contenders. Deirdre Creedon's 5th place at Tracton on
Tuesday evening sees her leap up the leaderboard and she is now tied for
second place with Trishia O'Mahony. A mere two points behind these gals
is Elaine Sheridan with 19 points she would need a super fast run next
Tuesday evening to overtake these ladies.
On the Short course Callum McIlreavy tops the league
with 19 point and he can't be caught at this stage. Jamie Latimer's
impressive run in Tracton sees him progress up into second place with 30
points which gives him a good points difference over the current third
place finishers Gerry and Maeve Brett who have 39 points. Another good
run by Chiara Bosonnet at Curragh Wood could see her edge her way into
the top three.
Right
throughout the results table many summer league regulars have the
ability to better their current standing and overtake their orienteering
rivals. To find out where you currently lie in the results tables and
who you can overtake in Curragh Woods check out the latest league tables
here: Also if you spot any errors or omissions please do let us know. Already
71 people have attended enough events to claim their Summer League
finisher t-shirt. So if you want to look as stylish as these individuals
when in action in the woods there are still two events left to attend
so don't miss out!

--------------------- COURSE INFO The Short Course has 10 controls. 2.6km with ~115m climb. The Long Course has 18 controls. 5.2km with ~275m climb. Unfortunately this event is not particularly buggy-friendly. Map scale: 1:10 000 Control descriptions will be printed on both course maps but loose control descriptions for the Long Course will also be available at registration. The wood is also popular with mountain bikes. Be wary of these before running across any junctions. --------------------- START TIMES
Competitors can start any time between 5:30pm and 7pm. ------------------- DIRECTIONS Curragh Wood is just 3km from Midleton on the road to Lisgoold. Coming from the city take the first exit for Midleton off the N25 dual carriageway and then turn left at the first set of traffic lights. This takes you around the northern relief road to the main Midleton - Lisgoold road. ------------- PARKING The start will be at the car park. Please note there is limited space in the car park so if parking on the road keep close to the wood, take care while walking on the road and also be attentive when leaving after the event. As always, we'd encourage you to car pool if you can. Hope to see you there, Planner/Organiser: Conrad Daly Controller: Mary Curran Cork Orienteering Club |
