2014 Munster Championships Muckross House, Killarney SUNDAY NOVEMBER 2nd

Post date: Oct 15, 2014 11:49:46 PM

Details of this year’s Munster Orienteering Championships (MOC) have recently been announced and the 2014 MOC will take place on Sunday November 2nd at Muckross House. We would love to see team CorkO well represented at this championship event.

Therefore we would like to encourage all of our members and especially our newest recruits to consider competing at this year’s event. If you've never attended a Championship event before then our regional championships is the ideal place to start. There will be classes to suit all ages.

The event will take place at Muckross House which is a nineteenth century Victorian mansion located in the stunning surrounds of Killarney National Park. The house stands close to the shores of Muckross Lake, one of Killarney's three lakes, famed world wide for their splendour and beauty.

Muckross is an old forested estate beside the world famous lakes of Killarney, with a wide variation in terrain type. The forest is mostly deciduous and fast-running, with many paths, and with rocky, steep and contoured parts. The open fields interspersed with rocky forested sections will make for interesting route choices.

Last year the club had champions in M21, M21S, M14, M65, W21S and W45 so no doubt these champions will be aiming to defend their championship titles on November 2nd. Furthermore, I'm sure CorkO's Darren Burke will be competing on the day and attempting to break the current record for the most Munster titles. The record now stands at seven and Darren presently shares this honour with CorkO's Brian Corbett. Can Darren make it six consecutive Munster Championship titles in a row and at the same time become a record breaker? Why not come along and find out!

Remember it's not all about winning but rather participation. Your club needs you! So please consider representing club CorkO at this year's Munster Championships. It is sure to be a fun filled day of orienteering.

Full details on how to enter are available here.

Finally, anyone looking to get some practise in ahead of the Championships might consider a trip to Killarney this Sunday October 19th as KerryO will be holding an event at Ross Castle and Island.
