The JK is an annual 4-day orienteering event held over Easter in a different part of the UK. This year’s event was held in the picturesque Lake District in England with over 3,000 participants including ~15 members of Cork O talking part. Day 1, held on Good Friday, was a sprint event held around the University of Lancaster. The campus was swarmed with orienteers crashing into each other. A pond adjacent to the run-in managed to capture a couple of competitors with dodgy cornering ability. Days 2 and 3 were in highly contoured and craggy mixed open/woodland and challenged all. The fantastic weather added to the memorable courses. The incredible Frenchman, Thierry Gueorgiou came, saw and won the M21E course while Cat Taylor of England won the W21E and is looking good for the World Championships which will be held in Scotland in August. The 3-person relay was held on Monday in magnificent woodland with Cork O teams in the top men and women’s classes. Both teams performed very well being top Irish team in each. The men, who finished in 19th of 45 teams, were only 3.5 minutes off a top 10 position. Check out some of the relay action in the video clip below.

Wendy Carlyle managed to capture some of our members in action over the course of the competition and posted these pics on the JK website.
