2017 Summer League Leaderboard

Post date: Jul 04, 2017 12:11:46 PM

To help motivate you on your run around Curragh Wood this evening here is a summary of the status of the Summer League leaderboard.

In the Men's section on the Long Course Conrad Daly has a comfortable position at the top of the leaderboard with a total of 12 points. His nearest rival Cian O'Mahony is a further 12 points behind. Dan McDonnell is sitting in third place with 33 points. If Dan attends this evening and has a good run he could eliminate his Currabinny Wood result from his points total which would see him move up the leaderboard.

In the Women's section on the Long Course following some very consistent running and navigation Sinead O'Donoghue leads the field with 11 points. Trishia O'Mahony and Elaine Sheridan are currently tied for second place with 20 points each. Liz Deane is in third place with 51. There are a few ladies who require one more event to complete the league and muscle their way into the rankings. Notably Niamh Corbett with a current points tally of 5 requires just one more event result to elevate her to the top of the Women's leader board. There are also a number of ladies who can potentially dislodge Liz from her current hold on third place if they finish well in the remaining events, Una Buckley, Emily Cronin and Sinead Wall are among them.

On the Short course some of our early league leaders have been relegated down the results table but things are very close between our leader and runner-up. Liam Twomey presently tops the table with 30 points. However, Chiara Bosonnet is right behind him and has a points total of 33. A good run by Chiara over the next two events could see her narrow this gap further. There isn't much between the next two league finishers either. Carmel Kearney is presently in third place with 42 points but no doubt Isaac Bosonnet will be trying to reduce his points total down from 46 to over take her.

Anything could happen over the final two events and I'm sure there will be some movement in the results table in the coming weeks. Be sure to check out the tables to see were you lie and who you can chase down over the remaining events.

If your analysis means that it is now impossible for you to finish near the top of the league tables fear not. All those who complete the league will received a commemorative league finisher t-shirt. We already have 43 league finishers and a further 22 individuals can complete the league and earn their stylish league finisher t-shirt if they attend tonight's event. Remember t-shirts are ordered specifically for league finishers so if you are among the list of current league finishers be sure to let me know your desired size. We'll have some samples available to try on at tonight's event.

Hopefully these results might help you to push yourself a little harder out there on the hills in Curragh Wood this evening. I know the voice in my head will be saying "Trishia O'Mahony would never walk up this hill!" It remains to be seen if our leaders and chasers will react well to this added pressure.

For some further inspiration and advice before the final two competitive events of the 2017 Summer League be sure to check out the following short videos from Ruairi Short and his fellow members of the Irish Orienteering team who are competing at the World Orienteering Championships in Estonia this week. These videos provide a great insight into their preparation and training before the big competition. Perhaps we all need to rest our legs with a short nap this afternoon before this evenings race!
