Christmas Orienteering Fun at Fota House and Gardens Saturday December 27th

Join us for some Christmas orienteering fun at Fota on Saturday December 27th and work off that Christmas dinner!
There will be two orienteering treats on offer on the day:
- Santa's Score Event
- Loop "O"
Santa's Score Event
Suitable for beginners: Starting with control 200, then visit all controls (or as many as you can) in any order, finishing with control 200 within the time allowed (maximum score 260).
Loop "O"
There will be 25 controls spread around the parkland and forest and when you open your map you will notice that there are four loops of controls labelled 201-206, 207-212, 213-218, 219-224, with a central control 200. All controls have a face value of 10 points.
The idea is that you have 45 minutes to complete the format, but you have choices as the winner is the person with most points, or if tied, the shortest time. The common denominator is that all options start and finish with control 200:
Loop O - Starting with control 200, visit each "loop" collecting controls in any order, then visit control 200 again before starting the next loop and so on, making sure you also finish with control 200. For every completed loop you will gain a bonus of 20 points (maximum score 370). Remember, you must start and finish with control 200.
Loop O Ascending Order - Starting with control 200, visit each "loop" collecting controls in ascending order, then visit control 200 again before starting the next loop and so on, making sure you finish with control 200. For every completed loop, you will gain a bonus of 40 points (maximum score 450).
Penalties: 10 points for every minute over the time limit. Any loop that doesn't have control 200 at the start and finish will lose the bonus.
Don't forget your watch to avoid losing any hard earned points! A clear head and some strategic planning might also be useful on the day to determine how to get the maximum points on offer.
Start Time
This event will be a group start which will set off at 12.00pm sharp - please come early register and warm up. This group start will have everyone zig-zagging in all directions across the beautiful (and, thankfully, flat) gardens at Fota. It promises to be fun!
All proceeds from this fun event will be going to Focus Ireland.
