Cork League #2: Seefin OCTOBER 14th Event Info

Post date: Oct 11, 2012 11:42:40 PM

The second event in the Cork League takes places this Sunday October 14th in the Nagles Mountains of North Cork. These mountains comprise an extensive area of open forest (see aerial photo on the left). The specific region for the event is called Seefin. The Seefin map which wasn't used for orienteering in over 25 years was updated by our club members last year and the first event held on this new map took place in March of this year. Following that event there was great praise for the new map and I’m sure many are looking forward to returning to this terrain. The map scale is 1:10,000 and the landscape is mostly open forest with a good road network and many earthwalls and streams. As nearly all of the wood is between 800 and 1,000 feet in altitude on a North facing hillside there are relatively few brambles and no rhododendron.
