Cork League #2: Walshtown Wood, Dungourney SUNDAY NOVEMBER 15TH Event Info

Post date: Nov 10, 2015 12:35:38 PM

The second event in the Cork Orienteering Club Cork League will take place on SUNDAY NOVEMBER 15th at WALSHTOWN WOOD near Dungourney.

The map has a good network of tracks and rides together with an amount of feature detail in some parts, in other places it has a large area of open woodland intersected by a single forest road with very sparse ground movement or feature detail. A compass may be beneficial in these areas.

COURSE INFO

Long Technical    6.4km   85m

Short Technical   4.0km   35m

Improvers            2.9km   55m (Off the Paths)

Beginners           2.2km   30m (On the Paths)

This event will use electronic punching.

All competitors will either cross or use a stretch of quite country road on their course. Even though there should be very little traffic present competitors still need to be aware of the possibility of a vehicle on the road. Parts of the 'On the Paths' course are not buggy friendly and there will be a taped route across a small section of forest. Due to recent thinning some of the rides/paths will have heavy vehicle tracks which at this time of year will be wet. On the positive side the majority of the technical courses will use the white sections of the map which should present a good orienteering challenge to all levels of competitor.

START TIMES:

Competitions can start any time between 11:00am and 1pm

Courses close at 2:00pm.

--------------

PARKING:

The road running by the wood is extremely narrow so parking will be on the road 500 meters from the start/finish area. As always we'd encourage you to car pool if you can.

DIRECTIONS:

From Main Street in Midleton turn North-East on to the R627. Travel approx. 9km on the R627 to the village of Dungourney. The event will be signed from Dungourney. The turn off for registration will be 6km from Dungourney and then just over 1 km along a very narrow road.
