Cork League #2: Walshtown Wood Sunday November 15th Results and Report

Post date: Nov 25, 2015 12:47:7 PM

Well done to all who braved the elements and attended our most recent event in Walshtown Wood. There were four courses to choose from on the day with the technical courses offering a good mix of trail running and intricate navigation through much of the runnable forest. These courses certainly afforded competitors some good navigational practise ahead of the upcoming Munster Orienteering Championships.

The competition on the Long Technical course was very tight and Donogh Wall and Brian Corbett battled hard over the 6.4km course and a mere 24 seconds separated them at the finish control. It was Donogh Wall who took the winners honours finishing in a time of 51:27. Brian's time of 51:51 earned him second place on the day. Danny O'Hare claimed the final podium spot when he finished in a time of 54:15.

On the Short Technical course it was Tom Ryan who proved himself fastest on the day. He completed the 4km course in a time of 45:08. The runners-up honour on the Short Technical course was hotly contested and this time a meager 23 seconds differentiated the final two podium finishers. Denis Power punched all 13 controls to complete the course in a time of 49:06 and in doing so just pipped Brendan Wall to the runners-up title. Brendan finished in a time of 49:29.

Lisa English was the winner on the Off the Paths course when she finished in a time of 52:02.

All competitors decided to challenge themselves on the day and as a result there were no participants on the On the Paths course.

Well done to all who participated. Full individual results with split times are available here.

Thanks to Liam O'Brien for planning the event and Willie Fitzgerald and Bobby O'Connor for assisting on the day.

Our next event will be the 2015 Munster Orienteering Championships which will take place in Kilworth Camp on Sunday December 13th. This is a pre-entry event and full details on the event and how to enter can be found here.

Hope you can join us on the day and hopefully some CorkO members will be crowned 2015 Munster Champions!
