Last chance to overtake your Summer League nemesis!

The 10th and final competitive event is the 2012 Summer League takes place this Tuesday July 10th in Glenbower Wood, Killeagh. This is the last chance for everyone to improve on their overall league position. Last week’s event in Ballyannon resulted in some shuffling on the leader board and now with just one event remaining the number of permutations have been reduced significantly. On the Long course Rob McEvoy needed to finish within the top three to improve his current league total. He failed to do this in Ballyannon but still remains on top of the leader board with a total of 12 points. As things stand Brian Corbett is the only person who can equal Rob’s current total and take a share of the Summer League title. However Brian needs to makes it to Glenbower Wood and win the event. All this is assuming Rob doesn’t achieve a top three finish this week. If he does he would maintain the outright lead and clinch the 2012 Summer League title. Donal Murphy’s good run last Tuesday now sees him resting in second place with 26 points just one point clear of Jonathan Lucey on 27 points and Jonathan is just a single point clear of Danny O’Hare. Further down the results table both John Chandler currently on 16 points and Conrad Daly presently on 19 points require just one more event to finish the league. Both of these guys have the potential to finish second or third if they have clean runs in Glenbower. In the ladies league Una Buckley’s solid run on Tuesday saw her improve her over league total and she now has 18 points and is just two points ahead of Trishia O’Mahony. Another good run by Una could see her further reduce her total if she finishes inside the top three. Similarly a solid run by Trishia could also see her pip Una for the title. As yet there have been no sightings of either Niamh Corbett (5 points) or Ailbhe Creedon (13 points). Are they back in the country? Will they be in Glenbower? These are the only two gals who could still deny both Una and Trishia the Ladies Summer League title. Elaine Sheridan is presently in third place on 23 point and would need a good run on Tuesday to improve this position and avoid being relegated down the leader board if some of these other Ladies make it to Glenbower. Looking down the leader board Eibhlin Cleary still has the potential to nudge her way into the top three if she makes it to the event on Tuesday and has a good run there.

On the Short Course Sean Bosonnet has managed to split the tie on the Short course thanks to his good result in Ballyannon Wood. He now has a total of 10 points and is two points clear of sister Sienna. Meanwhile Sienna is presently 5 points clear off her other brother Joe. Sean Bosonnet's good result on Tuesday now also means the Fintan Cadogan can no longer claim the Summer League Short course title. However he could still make his way up the leader board and stake a claim on second or third place. The Short course title contest is now a straight battle between Sean and Sienna Bosonnet. If Sienna wins the Short course event on Tuesday and Sean finishes outside the top three they will share the Short course title.

Who will cope best under the pressure? Who would you back to take the titles? It all makes for a thrilling finish to the competitive side of the 2012 Summer League in Glenbower Wood on Tuesday night.
