Munster League #6: Toureen, Tipperary Sunday October 8th Event Info

Post date: Oct 04, 2017 11:23:44 PM

The 6th event in the 2017 Munster League will take place on Sunday October 8th at Toureen, Co. Tipperary.Toureen Wood is located on the Northern slopes of the Galtees. This is a mature coniferous forest with good visibility and is free of brambles except for parts where long grass and stones will impede running. The forest has a good road track network with steep sided ravines and dry gulleys which run down the slopes which are characteristic of Galtee maps and an abundance of point features. Recent map updates reflect recent felling and additional extraction rides.

With six courses on offer, there is something to suit everyone, including beginners and those returning to the sport. Come along for a body-brain work-out.

COURSE INFO

********************

Orange 2.3km, 120m climb, 8 controls

Red 3km, 125m climb, 10 controls

Light Green 3.2km, 200m climb, 10 controls

Green 4.3km, 250m climb, 14 controls

Blue, 5.2km, 300m climb, 17 controls

Brown, 5.9km, 360m climb, 22 controls

The lengths might seem short but what they lack in distance they make up in climb and physicality underfoot! Unfortunately there has been a lot of felling in the forest (both natural and man-made) so the going is slow in most places.

******************

Start anytime from 11am - 1pm

Control collection will begin at 2.30pm or 90 minutes after the last person has started.

Motorists approaching from the south should use the M8 and exit at Junction 11 (signposted Cahir). Follow the R639 north-east to the Tipperary Road Roundabout.

Motorists approaching from the north should use the M8 and exit at Junction 10 (signposted Limerick/Waterford/Cahir N24). At the first roundabout, take the first exit (Limerick/Tipperary/Cahir/New Inn). At the second roundabout, take the third exit (signposted Limerick/Tipperary/Cahir). Continue along the N24 for approximately 2km to reach the Tipperary Road Roundabout.

Event will be signposted from the Tipperary Road roundabout on the R639. The turn-off for the wood is 4km from the Tipperary Road Roundabout. I am confident that we can arrange parking on the forest road but if this is not possible, parking and registration will be at The Lady Gregory pub, which is 1km from the start. Keep an eye out for the parking marshal (Bobby) and follow his instructions.
