Post date: Jan 21, 2020 10:18:15 PM

Our first orienteering event of 2020 will take place at Curragh Wood near Midleton this Sunday January 26th.

The art of contouring might help eliminate some unnecessary climb on this steep terrain. The area will surely present its own unique challenges to all who partake. For directions and some woodland trivia check out the following link:

Course Info

Short course: 2.3km, 155m climb, 7 controls

Medium course: 4.3km, 240m climb, 13 controls

Long course: 6.7km, 470m climb, 18 controls

Map: A4, scale 1:7500, 5m contours

Some of the tracks are slightly mucky but there is good runnability as the verges have been trimmed and the briars are low.

Keep an eye out and you might spot Red Squirrel.

As the wood is popular with mountain bikers, please be careful as you cross or emerge onto paths.

DIRECTIONS

Curragh Wood is just 3km from Midleton on the road to Lisgoold. Coming from the city take the first exit for Midleton off the N25 dual carriageway and then turn left at the first set of traffic lights. This takes you around the northern relief road to the main Midleton - Lisgoold road.

PARKING

The start will be at the car park. Please note there is limited space in the car park and once this fills parking will be on a busy road. So please park on the left side only and keep close to the wood, take care while walking on the road and also be attentive when leaving after the event. As always, we'd encourage you to car pool if you can.

Hope you can join us.Â
