Put them under pressure!

With just two events left to count in this years Summer League, now is probably a good time to examine the league standings and work out some of the permutations and combinations and see who really is in contention for the various league titles.

So far on the Long course 27 participants have completed six events or more and meet the criteria to finish the league while a further 26 competitors can finish the league if they attend one or both of the remaining events. Rob McEvoy with 12 points presently has a commanding lead over Jonathan Lucey who is lying in second place with 30 points. Just 3 points behind Jonathan is Danny O'Hare. However, Brian Corbett currently on 11 points requires just one more event to complete the league and a good run by him could take him to the top of the leader board. Conrad Daly and Donal Murphy also require just one more event to complete the league and if they can do this over the next two weeks and taking into account their form to date they have the potential to finish in the top three. Further down the table we have Tim O'Donoghue and John Chandler both of whom have completed four events so if they make it to the two remaining events and run well they could also muscle their way into one of the top positions.

Things are even closer in the Ladies league with just seven points the difference between first and fourth. Una Buckley currently tops the table with 21 points with Elaine Sheridan just two points behind her and Trishia O'Mahony a mere point behind Elaine. Liz Deane is not far off these gals either and a good ranking from her at either of the remaining events could see her relegate someone else down the table. Looking further down the league table we see that three ladies have the potential to demote all of the current leaders a few places. Niamh Corbett has a total of 5 points at present but requires one more result to finish the league. So will Niamh make it back from international duty at the European Youth Championships in France in time to get one more event in?? Similarly, will Ailbhe Creedon be back from her honeymoon in time to complete the league? With a total of 13 points to date one more good run could see her clinch the Ladies title. Furthermore, Eibhlin Cleary with 21 points also requires just one more event to complete the league and a good result could also see her finish in the top three.

On the Short course there are currently nine league finishers and five more individuals have the ability to complete the league if they attend the two remaining events. At present on the Short course two members of team Bosonnet are tied for first place. Both Sienna and Sean have 12 points. Team Bosonnet also have a hold on third place with Joe, and his current points tally of 17. So will team Bosonnet be competing against each other for the top three positions or can someone deny one of them a top three finish? Looking at the results it seems that Fintan Cadogan is the only man that can. If he manages to improve on his result from the Fota House and Gardens event he has the potential to leap frog all the members of team Bosonnet and be crowned Short Course Champion.

It all makes for an interesting climax to the Summer League. So no pressure guys but every position counts from here on in! So don't miss the action at the remaining competitive events in Ballyannon Wood, Midleton and Glenbower Wood, Killeagh.

Remember you can check out the latest league results here. So find out what you need to do to overtake your nearest rival. This should motivate you to run faster at the remaining events....but remember only run as fast as you can orienteer otherwise you could end up slipping down the league table!!
