Summer League #10: Glenbower Wood Event Info

Post date: Jul 08, 2012 9:59:5 PM

The 10th event (and last for scoring purposes) of this years Cork Orienteering Club Summer League takes place in Glenbower Wood, Killeagh in East Cork on Tuesday the 10th of July.

Directions from Cork city:

Take the Midleton/Carrigtwohill dual carriageway eastbound and continue past Midleton, and through Castlemartyr to Killeagh village. At the end of the main street in Killeagh, the road bends right, turn left here. Orienteering signs will be in place here. The wood is up a narrow road behind "The Old Thatch" pub.

Check out the bottom on the league page for a location map here.

Courses:

The long course is 4.1km with 10 controls

The short course is 1.9km with 6 controls. This course is also buggy friendly.

As usual start times are from 5:30pm to 7pm.

Remember this is your last opportunity to complete a leg of the Summer League to appear in the overall league results. It is also the last opportunity to improve on your overall position in the league and discard any of those bad runs you had earlier in the league (i.e. if you already have 6 or more events completed).

Furthermore, to mark the end of the competitive side of the Summer League we've made arrangements for a celebratory BBQ (burgers, sausages, salads etc) in the Old Thatch pub (which you pass on the way into the wood) following the event. Competitors can purchase a BBQ ticket for just €5 when registering on Tuesday evening. This will entitle the you to some delicious food upon completion of your course. The smell of charcoal and the aroma of food on the grill should encourage you to run faster down the home straight! Food will be served from 7pm so time your finish accordingly.

Hope to see you there.
