Summer League #11: Ballincollig Relay Event Info

Post date: Jul 13, 2012 11:29:44 PM

Hi Folks,The final fun event of the CorkO Summer League will take place in the Regional Park Ballincollig next Tuesday 17th of July.Start and finish will be in the Western Car park of the park and as usual start times are from 5:30pm to 7pm.Paper punching will be used, so no need to bring your SI card. The canal water levels in the park are quite deep, so UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD ANYONE ATTEMPT TO CROSS A CANAL WITHOUT USING A BRIDGE.Be advised that the going may be muddy underfoot in some areas, so wear appropriate footwear. There will be two courses on offer:- a short 2.8km course, which should be buggy friendly if the grass is not too wet and the buggy has big wheels. You may need a few helpers to venture 30m into the trees to get some controls. Note the controls may not be in plain sight as some of the more colourful local characters occasionally tend to remove or burn them so we have to hide them a little.- a relay courseCompetitors are to team up in two's for the relay course (Partner A and Partner B). If you can't find a Partner we will endeavour to get you one on the evening. The top 20 finishers from this years summer league may not team up with another top 20 finisher. There are 19 controls on the Relay course, Partner A will get "ANY 9 CONTROLS" (the easier leg?) and return to the start, handing over map and punch card to Partner B. Partner B will then get "THE REMAINING 10 CONTROLS" (the harder bit?) and return to the Finish.Collusion between Partners prior to the first partner setting off will be frowned upon or so I'm told...If a group (or individual) wants to go around socially together and get all 19 controls, that is grand too, but they will not be officially timed. If Partner A feels the 9 control course was to short for them, they are welcome to go out again and get the remaining 10 once their team mate is safely back (un-timed).Do try and get out early as the Summer League prize giving will take place in the car park at 7:30pm following the event. Cafe Chico (www.cafechico.ie) will remain at the western car park for the duration of the event, Margaret serves fresh tea, hot chocolate and coffee with home-made cake. However, don't be tempted to over indulge on these treats when waiting for your running partner to return as you could very easily undo all their good work!

Directions:===========From Cork city proceed west out the Carrigrohane road towards Ballincollig.
