Summer League #11: Farran Forest Park TUESDAY JULY 19TH Fun Relay Race, BBQ & Prize-giving

Post date: Jul 15, 2016 10:57:35 PM

The eleventh and final event in the 2016 CorkO Summer League will take place at Farran Forest Park on Tuesday evening July 19th. The format will be a fun relay race and as this will be the Summer League Finale the event will be followed by a BBQ and the league prize-giving. We really hope you can join us for some exciting orienteering, delicious food and the crowning of our league champions. One major addition to Farran Forest Park in recent years has been the arrival of Zipit Forest Adventures. This adventure company specialises in adventurous trail courses in the treetops. These aerial trails offer 86 activities and over 800m of Ziplines within the park. Allowing participants to climb high into the treetops, swing into cargo nets, surf with a difference or cycle a BMX over a treetop bridge before zipping down one of our many ziplines. You can find out more about these trails on their website www.zipit.ie

Once again the kind people from Zipit have kindly sponsored first prize in our Fun Relay Race and the 2016 CorkO Summer League Relay Champions will get to return to the park and see it from a different perspective on these exhilarating and challenging aerial trails. This excellent prize will provide further motivation for all participants on the night.

EVENT FORMAT

The format will be a 2-person fun relay race! All first let runners will commence their courses at the same time. When they complete their course and return to the finish they will tag their team mate who can then set off on their course.

Each team will complete a short 1.7km leg and a slightly longer leg 2.9km.There is a good path network in Farran so the area is buggy friendly. The map scale is 1:5000------------TEAMSIn the interest of fun and fairness we would ask that people who competed on the Long Course throughout the league partner up with those who competed on the Short course. Or failing that we would ask all those who finished in the top half of the Long course league results to find a team mate from the lower half of the Long course league results. We don't want a "packed duo" running away with the relay!!We really would encourage everyone to come along and enjoy this fun event. If you don't have a team mate before the event don't worry as the organisers will assist with team selection/pairings on the night to ensure everyone gets a run/walk/jog or stroll.

-------------------

START TIMES

There will be a group start of all first leg runners at 6.30pm. We will have a briefing 5 minutes beforehand to explain everything. Please allow enough time to register or find a team mate. There is a fabulous playground in the park which might provide a good warm up area for some of our competitors.

We have asked for the barrier at the entrance to the park to be opened for free entry between 5:30pm and 7pm. If you arrive outside this time you will most likely have to pay the €5 entrance fee.

-------

BBQ

The BBQ will start at 7:30pm in the National Rowing Centre which is also in the park (a 50m walk from the car park).

---------

COST

Adult €6 - includes relay entry and BBQ ticket.

Child €4 - includes relay entry and BBQ ticket.

Family €12 - includes relay entry and 3 BBQ tickets.

Additional BBQ tickets can be purchased at a cost of €6 for adults and €4 for children.

Anyone who attended our BBQ in the rowing centre last year will remember how delicious the food was.

LEAGUE FINISHERS

If you didn't manage to achieve one of the top places in the league don't worry all league finishers will receive a specially designed T-shirt. Similar to last year to avoid waste and ensure that you receive a T-shirt that fits you the summer league boutique will be at Farran on Tuesday night. We will have some sample T-shirts available for you to try on. We will then order your desired size and you can collect it at any of our Autumn League events. If you can't make the event and know your t-shirt size please do let me know.

So far we have over 110 league finishers, check the results file to see if you are one of the lucky few. Furthermore, the following people can still qualify for a T-shirt if they run on Tuesday, so do come out and compete.
