Summer League #2: Currabinny Wood, Ringaskiddy TUESDAY MAY 15TH Event Info

Post date: May 11, 2018 8:54:4 AM

The second event in the 2018 Summer League will take place on TUESDAY MAY 15TH at CURRABINNY WOOD, Ringaskiddy. We had a great turnout last Tuesday night and we'd highly recommend a visit to Currabinny Wood. This wood is located on a prominent hill on a peninsula overlooking Cork Harbour. The hillock slopes down to the sea on three sides. Legend has it that it's name commemorates a giant, Binne, whose burial chamber surmounts the hill (‘Corra’) to this day. This "Giant's grave" and an octagonal gazebo tea house are just two of the distinctive features on offer in this wood.

It is sure to present new and interesting orienteering challenges to all who partake. Just a reminder that you need to attend 6 events to receive a league finishers t-shirt....so why not get them in early!

START TIMES

Start anytime from 5:30pm to 7pm.

PARKING

The wood is always popular with the locals in the area and the car park isn't huge so parking can be tight. We would encourage you to car pool if you can. When parking please adhere to the directions of our parking marshals and park on the left side of the road. Please don't block the entrance to the one house on the way in and give some consideration for others who may wish to enter/exit the wood while you are on your run.

WARNING

In previous years the midge population made their presence known in Currabinny Wood. So if you have insect repellent it would be advisable to throw it into the car just in case they are back again this year.

I hope you've taken some time to analyse the results and splits from our last event and have pinpointed decisions were you lost valuable seconds/minutes over fellow competitors. If so, you may have also identified an orienteering rival you wish to reel in at Currabinny this week.

Hope you can join us.
