Summer League #5: Garretstown Wood, Ballinspittle TUESDAY JUNE 6TH Event Info

Post date: Jun 03, 2017 9:32:30 PM

The fifth event in the CorkO Summer League will take place on TUESDAY JUNE 6TH at Garretstown Wood, Ballinspittle.

The wood covers an area of 200 hectares and is steeped in history. The northern section of the wood is on elevated ground overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. On the southern end of the wood there is a spring well known as the ‘The Spa Bathing Bath’ or ‘Chalybeate Waters’. This bath has a bee hive stone roof to protect its waters from rain. These special waters were discovered in 1750 and many generations have been cured by bathing in them. Remnants of an old deer wall can also be found within the forest,

The map of this area was updated last year and  was used during the 2016 Autumn League. However the dense fog that night created an eerie atmosphere at that event. and didn't allow participants to fully experience the numerous features on offer in this wood. As this terrain will be unfamiliar to most of our regular summer league followers it is sure to present a real challenge to all who attend.

The fine sandy beach close by at Garretstown is an excellent location for a post run recovery dip or picnic. So why not join us for a Wild Atlantic Way adventure in Garretstown on Tuesday evening.
