The 2012 Summer League drew to a close last Tuesday evening in Ballincollig and since then we’ve had a chance to study the results and compile some useless Summer League statistics. So for all those orienteers who not only like navigating while running but are also fans of numbers here are our latest Summer League figures!Over the duration of the league 324 individuals tried the sport of orienteering. Furthermore, many of these attended several events in the league and we recorded an average attendance of 85 competitors per event. 164 individuals under took the Long course on offer with 34% of these entries being female. Meanwhile, 160 different people opted for the Short course which was almost double the number from last year. This year five people managed to attend all eleven events. Three competitors competed in all the Short course events – Sean, Sienna and Joe, and they would have clocked up >26km on forest trails. Two individuals – Rob and Elaine, entered all eleven Long course events and they covered >60km in the woods and parks around Cork city and county. Furthermore seven individuals (Maura, Orlagh, Trishia, Una, Eric, Fergal and Jerry) competed in ten events.Fergal O'Shea gets a special mention again this year, his warm up prior to his run involved cycling to the event; you may have spotted his bicycle at the start. The only event he missed was the James’ Fort event but he had a good excuse as he ran the Cork City Marathon the day before!I'm sure many of you have numerous scratches and bruises from traversing the various forests during the league and I know one person even has a scar on their head to remind them of this year's Summer League! However, for all those who attended 6 or more events you will receive our unique souvenir t-shirt as a nicer reminder of your 2012 Summer League adventure. In total there are 71 people eligible to receive this year’s t-shirt. A full list of those entitled to a t-shirt is available on the t-shirt tab of the results file here.

Similar to last year we are ordering the sizes as requested. So thanks to all those who have already indicated what size they desire for those who haven't please do get in touch with me as soon as you can to let me know what size you would like.

Some of the highlights of this year’s Summer League have been captured on camera and are reflected in the following video montage. From watching it you might even think we're having great summer weather!

At Cork Orienteering Club we are always looking for ways to improve our events so if you have any feedback on any aspect of the league, courses, locations, website, facebook page etc it would be much appreciated. You can contact me directly or use the contact page on the website.

Finally thanks again to all the planners, controllers and organises for all the work in staging the events and to all who attended and made their efforts worthwhile.
