Training Day: Doneraile Forest Park Saturday August 17th

Post date: Aug 08, 2019 9:29:9 PM

Hi All,

To celebrate Heritage Week, CorkO will be holding a training day on the beautiful grounds of Doneraile Court on Saturday 17th August. This will be suitable for those new to orienteering and those wishing to learn or improve on basic orienteering skills. The map of Doneraile Park will kindly be provided by CSOA (Cork Schools Orienteering Association).

Complete beginners are welcome. It is also a perfect opportunity to fine-tune the skills you've been using during the Summer League and learn some new techniques to try out in our upcoming Autumn League. Did you buy that shiny new compass with the best of intentions, but it's been sitting idle since? If so, then now is your chance to learn how to use it properly.

The training is open to everybody. It will be free of charge for CorkO members and the fee will be €10 for non-members payable on the day. As money cannot be collected inside the park (OPW directive), payment will be taken outside the main entrance of the park.

We will be meeting at 10.30am. There will be a number of different exercises to practice map reading skills and tuition will be provided by our experienced club members. We will be stopping for a break during the day, so it is advised to bring a packed lunch with you. Things should wrap up at about 3.30pm.

Please register your interest by emailing your name, contact details and a very brief description of your experience level (e.g. Have never been orienteering before, or have been to X summer league events, etc).
