Urban-O Race Kinsale Town Sunday March 20th

Post date: Mar 10, 2016 11:59:24 PM

Cork Orienteers invite you to race with us around Kinsale town centre! Navigate your way through the colourful and winding streets to visit all the checkpoints (controls) in the quickest time possible. Then join us afterwards for some Sunday brunch! No experience necessary and beginners are very welcome.

It is over 10 years since this area has been used for orienteering and it has been completely re-mapped for this event. Because we want the streets to ourselves, the starts for this event will be between 9.00am and 10.00am, and we plan to close the courses at 10.30am.

There will be two courses planned by CorkO's Cillín Corbett - one for complete beginners and another longer, more challenging Sprint course for the more experienced orienteers.

REGISTRATION AND PARKING for our Urban O race on Sunday will be at "Sáile", the new Sports and Community Centre in Kinsale. Registration for beginners/families between 08.45am and 09.30am, registration for experienced orienteers between 08.45am and 09.45am. Please follow the orienteering signs and approach Sáile via the coastal route, to avoid crossing through the race area (the entrance to Sáile is opposite Kinsale Community School).

BRUNCH? We will have refreshments available at the registration area and a bake sale to raise funds for the Irish Junior Orienteering Squad.

ENTRIES: All participants will be asked to sign a form at registration to acknowledge the risks associated with racing on public streets. We will be using our Summer League pricing system: Adults €5; Juniors €3; Families €10. Participants will also require timing chips (SI cards) and these are available for hire at €2 each.

We look forward to welcoming you to Kinsale. If you are in Cork on Saturday also, why not make it a weekend of urban orienteering and check out the event taking place on University College Cork campus at midday.

If you've any questions do get in touch.

The is what the old Kinsale town map looked like. Looking forward to seeing the new one!
