Regional Park Ballincollig SAT DEC 1st Permanent O Course Launch

Post date: Nov 27, 2012 12:38:52 AM

Saturday December 1st sees the official launch of a new permanent orienteering course in the Regional Park, Ballincollig. The course has 16 permanent control points each with a sturdy metal post topped with a red/white orienteering logo. The course arose out of a joint initiative between the Recreation and Amenities section of Cork County Council and Cork Orienteering Club and is sponsored by Margaret Long of Cafe Chico. This year Cork O members Dave O’Donovan, Gerald Duffy and Bobby O’Connor have all been involved in this project specifically with the re-mapping, planning and painting of the new permanent orienteering controls.

Now that all the hard work is done it is time for the rest of us to enjoy this great new amenity. Therefore to official launch this new permanent orienteering course we will be holding a score event on the new course this Saturday.

Start times will be from 11am to 1pm

Manual pin punching will be in use.

This launch event is an ideal opportunity for us to promote not just our sport but also our club to non-orienteers. So if anyone is free on Saturday morning and interested in trying out the new course then root out your finest cleanest Cork O tops (leave the vintage stuff at home folks!) and help promote our sport and club. This event should be a nice warm up for anyone planning on heading to the Munster League event on Sunday.

Furthermore as this is the FIRST event on the permanent orienteering course......the official course record is also there for the taking!

It is sure to be a fun day out so please do encourage your friends and family to come out and try some orienteering in this pleasant and historic setting which incorporates the famous Gun Powder Mills. To further entice you to the park why not click here to see some of the sights the park has to offer.

Finally, after your run why not treat yourself to some of the tasty delights that Cafe Chico (www.cafechico.ie) have to offer. Margaret will be on site for the duration of the event so you can purchase numerous hot drinks with some delicious home-made cakes.

Hope to see you there!
