Summer League #4: Regional Park Ballincollig TUESDAY JUNE 2ND Event Info

Post date: May 29, 2015 10:32:25 AM

The fourth event in the Cork Orienteering Club Summer League will take place on Tuesday June 2nd at the Regional Park Ballincollig. Please note this event will start from the MIDDLE CAR PARK rather than the western end.The park extends along the south bank of the river Lee and the terrain is mixed parkland, with fast grass and path sections, some forest run and some undergrowth. The land was originally part of the Ballincollig Gunpowder Mills and the eastern end of the park is where the many ruins of the old Gunpowder Factory are still visible. Interesting route choice is provided by the limited number of crossing points along the canals and millraces which run throughout the park.----------------------

COURSE INFO:

Long 18: controls 5.0km, 0m climb

Short 9: controls 2.5km, 0m climb

Paper punching will be used, controls will not be numbered. (some controls are on both courses - so numbering would cause confusion). (We will use SI timing for start and finish only if it is available.)

The short is buggy friendly, though there are sections where the control kite is 60m off the path across some grass.

The canal in the park must be crossed USING THE 4 BRIDGES ONLY.

There will be NO CONTROLS INSIDE any ruin or building.

Map scale: 1:7500

START TIMES:

Competitors can start any time between 5:30pm and 7pm
