Summer League #4: Regional Park Ballincollig TUESDAY JUNE 3RD Event Info

Post date: May 30, 2014 12:3:19 AM

The fourth event in the Cork Orienteering Club Summer League will take place on Tuesday June 3rd at the Regional Park Ballincollig. Please note this event will start from the MIDDLE CAR PARK rather than the usual start location! The park extends along the south bank of the river Lee and the terrain is mixed parkland, with fast grass and path sections, some forest run and some undergrowth. The land was originally part of the Ballincollig Gunpowder Mills and the eastern end of the park is where the many ruins of the old Gunpowder Factory are still visible. Interesting route choice is provided by the limited number of crossing points along the canals and millraces which run throughout the park.

----------------------COURSE INFO:

The Long Course will cover a distance of 4.4km and

The Short Course 2.4km.

The short course is predominantly on paths but does have a 300m section over short grass. It would be buggy friendly for buggies and strollers with larger wheels.

There is no appreciable climb on either course.

The canal in the park must be crossed USING THE 4 BRIDGES ONLY.

There will be NO CONTROLS INSIDE any ruin or building.

Map scale: 1:7500

Paper Punching will be used. SI cards will not be needed.

---------------------START TIMES:

Competitors can start any time between 5:30pm and 7pm

Controls will be collected from 8pm.

----------------------------

REFRESHMENTS:

Cafe Chico (www.cafechico.ie) will remain open at the middle car park for the duration of the event. After your run, why not treat yourself to some fresh tea, coffee, hot chocolate or home-made cake, and chat about your route choices with your fellow competitors.
