2024 Summer League #1

Summer League #1 Currabinny Wood, Ringaskiddy Tuesday May 21st Event Info

Thanks to all who attended our Summer League prequel event in Tramore Valley Park. We hope you are now all warmed up and ready to go for our first competitive event in the 2024 CorkO Summer League.

The first league event will take place on today TUESDAY MAY21ST at CURRABINNY WOOD, Ringaskiddy.

May 18th to May 26th is World Orienteering Week with lots of events taking place all around the world.

On Tuesday evening we will be celebrating World Orienteering Week and we encourage everyone to bring their family, friends or work colleagues to the event to try the sport of orienteering in this fabulous setting.

Currabinny Wood is located on a prominent hill on a peninsula overlooking Cork Harbour. The hillock slopes down to the sea on three sides. Legend has it that it's name commemorates a giant, Binne, whose burial chamber surmounts the hill ('Corra') to this day. This "Giant's grave" and an octagonal gazebo tea house are just two of the distinctive features on offer in this wood.

Just a reminder that you need to attend 6 events to receive a league finishers memento.....so why not get them in early!

START TIMES

Start anytime from 5pm to 6:45pm.

PARKING

The wood is always popular with the locals in the area and the car park isn't huge so parking can be tight. We would encourage you to car pool if you can. When parking please adhere to the directions of our parking marshals and park on the left side of the road. Please don't block the entrance to the one house on the way in and give some consideration for others who may wish to enter/exit the wood while you are on your run.

WARNING

In previous years the midge population made their presence known in Currabinny Wood. So if you have insect repellent it would be advisable to throw it into the car just in case they are back again this year.

Hope you can join us.
