Well done to all our members who took part in the Irish Orienteering Championships in Derry over the weekend. Orienteering really is the sport for all with CorkO members represented in classes M/W12 to M80. All our members from home and abroad who made the long journey to Derry were rewarded with four days of fantastic orienteering.
The glorious sunshine accentuated the views from Magilligan across to the Inishowen peninsula and along the Causeway coastline with Binevenagh and it's dramatic cliffs to the south. The dry conditions led to fast and very pleasant running across the technical sand dunes.
Huge thanks to North West Orienteering Club and all their volunteers for staging an excellent championship weekend.
Our club base at the MaddyBenny Cottages was a superb location for all the weekends action and for sight seeing along the Causeway Coastal Route. Thanks to Mary O'Brien for sourcing these fabulous houses. The fine weather allowed for stunning views across the North Atlantic to Islay and Jura in Scotland from the sitting room in one of the cottages.
It was wonderful to have 40+ CorkO members in actions over the weekend and there was a great display of club colours at the relay event on Monday. Thanks to everyone who represented the club at the weekend, you all did us proud.
Huge congratulations to all the newly crowned CorkO Irish Champions and podium finishers. Special mention to Shane Lynch and Bill Edwards who won their respective classes across all three events - Sprint, Middle and Classic and were part of winning Relay teams too! Well done guys! Below is a summary of all the CorkO podium finishers across these awesome events.
