Summer League #4 James Fort, Kinsale Tuesday June 10th
The fourth event in the CorkO Summer League will take place at James Fort, Kinsale on Tuesday June 10th.
This historic fort is a very unique orienteering destination. The area is comprised of open hillside surrounding the pentagonal Fort with its spear shaped earthen Bastions. The earthen moat encircling the Fort can present some navigational challenges while other novel features on the map include the sandy beach and stone tunnels but don’t forget to duck when negotiating the latter. Given the compact nature of this area participants will no doubt cross paths many times over the duration of their course as they traverse the sloping hills around the fort.
COURSE INFO
Short Course 1.5km - On paths and grassy park land. Suitable for beginners and juniors but not really buggy friendly due to steps at access point.
Long Course 3.7km - Double sided map so don't forget to flip the map after control 9!
James Fort is an OPW site.
No climbing on buildings or protected structures.
Take care on steep sections, high fort bastions and coastal edges.
