Southwest League The Crags, Glenflesk, Co. Kerry Sunday September 27th

The next event in the 2026 Southwest league will take place at The Crags, Glenflesk, Co. Kerry on Sunday September 27th

This is an excellent orienteering area which has not been much used. It was used twice for Shamrock O-Ringins. It consists of open mountain, with steeper slopes lower down, and a wealth of contour detail and quite a lot of crags on the slopes. The map has been restored and updated for this event by Brian Corbett. Runnability is generally good. The grass is a bit longer than it would have been for those early summer Shamrocks, but it is still runnable and not very wet. There is almost no gorse and ferns on the courses.

Brown 6.4km 300m 16 controls

Blue 4.7km 200m 11 controls

Green 3.6km 180m 11 controls

Light Green 2.8km 90m 9 controls

Red 2.0km 50m 10 controls

Orange 1.8km 40m 8 controls

STARTS

There are two starts.

Start for the Orange and Red Courses is, 1.5 km and 170m climb along a farm road. From here it is a further 600m and 150m climb, in the terrain, to the start for the remaining courses. The finish is the same for all courses.

While the climb to the start is significant, this should not discourage competitors as it gives access to excellent, technical terrain on the top of the hill, where the runnability is best, and keeps the climb on the courses down.

Pre-entry is preferable so that we print the right number of maps and reduce waste. Entry on the day will nonetheless be available.

PARKING

Parking will be conveniently located on the farm on the map. 

As parking space will be limited we would encourage competitors to car pool if they can.
