2026 Summer League Standings after 7 events
The penultimate event in the 2026 CorkO Summer League takes place today in Glenbower Wood and now is a good time to take a look at the leaderboard.
On the Long course in the Men’s table Ruaidhri O’Brien presently holds pole position with a total of 35pts. A good run this evening could see him further improve his standing. Second place is presently held by Eric O’Connor with 99pts while chasing at his heels is Michael Carey with 103 points. Both can improve their points tally with a good run at the remaining events.
Further down the table both Kevin Carey and Jonathan Lucey require just on more event to complete the league and in doing so can muscle their way onto podium spots. Presently just 1 point separates these two competitors as Kevin points tally is 23 and Jonathan’s is 24.
Marc O’Sullivan has demonstrated great orienteering prowess in this year’s league finishing first or second in all the league events he has attended so far. He must attend the final two events to complete the league. If he maintains this level of consistency at these events, he has the potential to claim the 2026 Summer League Long course title.
In the Long Women’s league Niamh Morrissey is our current league leader with a total of 10 points. Eibhlin Cleary holds the league runner-up spot with 23 points while Mary Ann O’Brien is in third place with 50 points.
However, there are a few individuals that could potentially nudge their way onto the podium over the remaining two events. Mary O’Brien needs to complete 1 more event to complete the league and as her points tally currently sits at 9, she could potentially earn a podium finish with good runs at the remaining events. Similarly, Liz Deane requires just one more event to complete the league. She presently has 30 points so she too could also move up to a podium spot. Further down the league table there are four ladies that could rise up the leader board if they attend and run well at our final two event. Aisling O’Mahnoy 18pts, Claire O’Brien 21pts, Una Buckley 24pts and Cathy Kennedy 25pts. It certainly makes for an exciting finish to the 2026 Summer League.
On the Short Course there are presently no league finishers. However, three competitors require just one more event to finish the league. Ciara Caball has a strong lead at the top of the table with 13 points after 5 events. Billy Caball sits in second with 43 points and not far behind him is Robert O’Connor with 47 points. Looking further down the table Fionn O’Hare could potentially earn a podium finish if he attends and runs well at our final two events.
Let us see if our league leaders can handle the added pressure from the chasing pack over the remaining events. Lots of bragging rights still up for grabs in the remaining two events.
Thanks again to everyone who has participated so far. Full league tables can be viewed at the following link:

Be sure to check them out and find your orienteering nemesis and try and overtake them in the remaining events.
If you spot any errors or omissions, be sure to let me know.
Just a note of apology to those who competed at the event in Mallow last week. The courses were a little longer then usual and the extreme heat on the night made conditions very difficult for all. Furthermore, some competitors were impacted by the closure of the Castle grounds at 8pm which meant they were locked out from accessing the last few controls on the Long course. We are truly sorry for this error on our side.
We also noted that two controls on the Long course were swapped and that some competitors were impacted by punch capacity issues on their SI cards. The results have been amended for all those impacted by these two issues.
We are sincerely sorry if this affected your enjoyment of this event on such a beautiful summer’s evening in Mallow.
Temperatures are also looking pretty hot for tonight’s event in Glenbower Wood. Hopefully the forest shade will provide some relief and competitors won’t be far from a nice beach for post run cool down if needed.
Hopefully see you in Glenbower Wood for some more competitive action.
