Summer League Standings ahead of Final Event

Ahead of the final event in the 2026 CorkO summer League it is time for another run down through the current league standings. With just one event remaining it is last chance salon for improving your overall league result.

With another event win at Glenbower Wood last Tuesday Ciara Caball completed the league and in doing so claims the title of 2026 Short course Champion. With a total of 14 pts and just one event remaining she can't be beaten. While the Short course Champion is already decided there is a fierce contest ongoing for the runner up spot with just 1 point separating the next two finishers. Billy Caball has a points tally of 54 while Robert O'Connor is one point behind him on 55. As no one else in the field can dislodge these two from the podium it will be a head-to-head battle between Billy and Robert for the runners-up spot. Both have completed 6 events and Fota provides them both with the opportunity to improve their points total. If Billy finishes 14th or better, he will reduce his current total while Robert needs to finish 12th or better to lower his. Who will handle the pressure best on Tuesday? It sure makes for an exciting finish to the Short course league.

In the Long course Mens section, there was some movement in the leaderboard after the Glenbower Wood event. Kevin Carey now tops the table with 23 pts and just 5 points behind him is Jonathan Lucey with 28 pts. Ruaidhri O'Brien currently has a hold on the final podium spot with 35 pts. However, there is one competitor who has the potential to demote all of our current podium leaders. Another event win for Marc O'Sullivan at Glenbower Wood earns him a points total of 8 after 5 events. If he attends and has another good run at the Fota House and Gardens event he will complete the 2026 Summer League and in doing so would clench the title of 2026 Men's Long Course Champion. None of the podium spots are guaranteed and good runs by our currently leaders on Tuesday could see them reduce their points totals and shuffle things around again. Three other competitors - Daryl O'Toole, Morgan O'Brien and Alex O'Connor require just one more event to complete the league. It won't earn them a podium finish but may give them bragging rights over fellow rivals!

There are currently 7 league finishers on the Long course Women's section and a further 5 can complete the league if they attend and have a clean run around Fota. After 8 events things are very tight right down through this leaderboard. There is presently a tie for first place with both Niamh Morrissey and Mary O'Brien sitting on 10 pts. It looks like it will be a straight contest between these two for the title of 2026 Women's Long Course Champion on Tuesday night. Eibhlin Cleary has a firm footing on the final podium spot with a total of 21 pts and doesn't look like she can be dislodged at this late stage. Her next closest contender is Liz Deane with 40 pts. Further down the leaderboard there are lots of contests still to be decided. Mary Ann O'Brien and Elaine Sheridan are tied for 5th place on 47 pts. While Aisling O'Mahony has a points total of 23 after 5 events so if she attends the Fota event and has a strong finish, she can rise up the leaderboard. Equally Cathy Kennedy and Claire O'Brien are presently tied on 32 pts after 5 events and they too could demote some of our current league leaders. Similarly, just on behind this pair is Una Buckley on 33 pts who can also compete the league on Tuesday and move her way up the leaderboard.

Lots to be decided in the Women's Long course league on Tuesday night. Extra motivation for all involved to break these deadlocks and achieve some personal victories.

With lots at stake in the final event it sure does make for an exciting climax to the 2026 Summer league. Let us see if our current podium holders can handle the added pressure from the chasing pack at the final event. Lots of personal rivalries to be decided on Tuesday night.
