The entry deadline is 2nd January at 21:00. On-the-day entry is available; however, maps are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.
Terrain
This is the first orienteering race to be held on the Midleton Town map. The competition area is predominantly urban, with a combination of town centre, business park, and housing estates. Please note that the area has active traffic, be careful and please respect traffic rules at all times. Some roads are out of bounds entirely while others have crossing points. These are either pedestrian crossings or traffic light crossings but will not be manned. Athletes are responsible for their own safety while on the course. Take care at all times and be mindful of pedestrians in the town, especially at blind corners. The short course has been planned to remain in a quiet estate but there is still traffic. U-10s must be accompanied by an adult. U-16s may compete without an accompanying adult if they have permission from their parent/guardian and the event organiser. All out-of-bounds areas must be respected. Spiked orienteering shoes are not allowed, runners are suitable for all courses. Orienteering is an adventure sport, participants take part at their own risk.
Start
Start times are available between 10:00 am and 11:30 am. All courses use a punching start.
Parking
Parking is available at the Midleton Greenway start point. There will be a taped marked route, ~600m, from the parking to the start/finish/registration on McSweeney Terrace.

Course Information
Course Length Controls Map size
Short 2.2km 8 A4
Medium 5.7km 14 A3
Long 7.5km 18 A3
* Course lengths are running route not straight line
The Short course does not cross any main road and stays entirely within the housing estate near the start. There will still be some traffic here, please give way and make safe decisions when crossing any roads. The short course has 2 maps printed side by side on an A4. The first controls are on part 1 and the remainder are on part 2.
The last control of Part 1 is marked as a starting point (triangle) on Part 2. See the example below. This will be explained further before the start for anyone not familiar with a course with two parts.
The Medium and Long courses go into the town and around the main shopping centre. The main street is out of bounds except for the marked crossing points (some are pedestrian crossings and others have traffic lights). It is only allowed to cross using these but none are mandatory so you can select any on your rouetchoice. These crossing points will not be manned. It is allowed to run on the footpaths parallel to the main street.
Both Medium and Long courses make use of artificial barriers to add more routechoice options. These are clearly shown on the map and exaggerated for clarity. You are NOT ALLOWED to cross this symbol on the map. There is no marking in the terrain and there will be no marshal. In the interest of fairness please respect the barriers.
Control descriptions are available on the map for all courses. Loose descriptions are available at the -2 minute start box for the medium and long courses.
Every participant is responsible for their own safety during the competition. The courses cross several roads with some traffic. Please, be very careful when crossing roads and also be respectful to pedestrians within the town.
This event will double as a fundraiser for the Irish Senior Squad to assist them towards the World Orienteering Championships in Italy later this year. We will also have a bakesale stand for after race treats to accompany the routechoice discussions. The squad is very grateful to CorkO for donating the event proceeds and to you for attending the event and supporting us! You can follow us on Facebook and Instagram to keep up to date!
