Yesterday saw the 2nd event in the 2018 Munster League take place at Glengarra. It was a damp, murky morning, but that didn't deter the 65 orienteers who travelled from near and far to compete. The weather improved as the morning progressed, with many commenting that it was one of the mildest mornings for a run so far in 2018.
Glengarra Woods is an area where straight-line orienteering generally is not an option, so the published course lengths fell predictably short of the distances people actually ended up running. The course winners on the day were:
Brown
Darren Burke (53:31)
Niamh Corbett (70:26)
Blue
John Scannell (76:44)
Aoife O'Sullivan (102:00)
Green
Conrad Daly (56:11)
Liz Deane (92:10)
Light Green
Bob O'Connor (45:06)
Zane Kramina (51:14)
Red
Treasa O'Donovan (26:44)
Daniel O'Riordan (29:34)
Orange
Hugh Whelan (20:50)
Clodagh O'Sullivan (27:54)
Full results, including splits and RouteGadget, are available at http://www.orienteering.ie/result2?oaction=moreResult&id=3107
On the day, SI unit 215 did not function, and this affected competitors on the Green, Blue and Brown courses. I have manually edited the splits file to give competitors a time for control 215; it is the mid-point of the time taken between the previous control and the next control.
Thanks to Agris Kramins for planning the courses, and for both putting out and taking in the controls. Agris was helped by his daughter Zane, and Bob O'Connor also helped with equipment set-up.
The next Munster League race will be hosted by Kerry-O at Upper Torc (Muckross) on March 11th. This race will double as the Irish Orienteering Student Championships, so we look forward to seeing a good attendance.
Best regards,
Rob McEvoy
