Munster League #4: Crohane Lake Results
Post date: Apr 14, 2014 11:29:0 PM
The fourth event in the 2014 Munster League took place last Sunday in Crohane Lake on a fine sunny day. This area was last used for the third day of the 18th Shamrock O-Ringen.
The timing of this event was selected to allow participants an opportunity to practice navigation on the open mountainside ahead of this year's Irish Orienteering Championship which will be on open terrain. The event was also the third step on our club's plan for member participation at this year's Irish Championships. So it was fantastic to see such a great turnout on the day. The club tent also made an appearance and provided an excellent location for post run analysis and refreshments.
The brown course was one of the most competitive courses on the day with twelve participants opting for this challenging 8.6km course with 330m of climb. Shane Lynch was first home with a fantastic time of 68:31, he had almost ten minutes to spare over his nearest rival.
On the 6.9km Blue course it was John Scannell who took the honours with a time of 79:53.
Jim Callanan was first home on the Green in a time of 71:06.Â
While Liz Deane took the spoils on the Light Green course with a time of 85:44.
Aideen Morrish was the pace setter on the Orange course finishing with a time of 43:43.
Aoife O'Brien just pipped her brother to first place on the Yellow course.
Full individual results with splits are available here. Plus more photos from the event have been posted to our Gallery page.
Thanks to Bernard Creedon for planning the courses, Darren Burke for controlling the event and Bobby O'Connor for organising.
Remember there is still time to get your entry in for this year's Irish Orienteering Championships as the closing date has been extended to TUESDAY APRIL 22ND.
