Autumn League #5: Fota House and Garden TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 15TH Event Info
Post date: Sep 13, 2015 7:1:3 PM
The final event in our Autumn League will take place at Fota House and Gardens on Tuesday September 15th.
Fota's arboretum and gardens are internationally recognised and have the finest collections of rare and tender trees and shrubs grown outdoors in Ireland and Britain and I'm sure their colours will provide a stunning backdrop for Tuesday's orienteering event.
This beautiful parkland terrain provides an ideal location to conclude our Autumn League. With a good network of paths the area is very buggy friendly. This location always proves popular with families and is a delightful area for beginners and those new to the sport to embark on some orienteering adventures. The Sprint-O nature of the landscape will also provide several challenges for our experienced orienteers and the fast pace will mean that every second really will count.
Short course: 2km, 12 controls
Long course: 4.9km, 18 controls - with some nice open running at the end.
Fota is one of the only orienteering events in the country that you can get to directly by train! Timetables on www.irishrail.ie.
If travelling by car from Cork city take the N25 East and take the exit for Cobh. The entrance to the House and Gardens will be on your right as you travel along the R624. Take care with the bends on the road.
Further directions and area trivia are available here:
Registration will be in the car park and you can start anytime from 5.30pm - 6.30pm.
If you are bringing your car, bear in mind that there is a €3 charge to exit the car park, so remember to bring your 1 and 2 euro coins. Car pool if you can.
This will be our final opportunity for some evening orienteering in 2015. So don't miss out. A reminder to anyone who hasn't collected their Summer League finishers t-shirt these will be available to pick up at Tuesday event.
Hope to see you in Fota.
